A pair of Lexington painters examine the natural world  in a vivid potpourri of styles and techniques.

Margie M. Rigney - “In Art, there are no mistakes. Even failure can be beautiful.”

Local Artist Margie Rigney currently resides in Scott County, Kentucky. A former newspaper columnist and gallery owner, she has been painting professionally for over ten years. Her work varies from charcoal portraits to era-specific Sepia's and oil landscapes.

A lover of Nature and the outdoors, many paintings reflect the richly colored landscapes of the Bluegrass region in all Seasons. Mixing her affection for India Ink along with Oil Paints, pastels and Acrylics, it is not unusual to find a mix of mediums in individual works. A self-taught follower of joy-inspired work, her styles, palette and timeline change often, from Depression-era glimpses of life, to most recently, emotive abstracts on canvas.

Celebrating the beauty of Burnt Sienna and Olive Green, Mid-century-modern nostalgia is a common thread that runs through the fabric of this 2024 Mill & Max Gallery collection.

    Nancy Z. Hall

Since moving from her native Buffalo, NY, Nancy has eagerly embraced the local art community here in Lexington. Nancy discovered her passion for pastels in the 1980s after taking her first workshop and has been refining her craft ever since. Inspired by the pure beauty of nature, she captures its essence by layering colors using a variety of soft and hard pastels on coarse-sanded textured paper. This technique allows her to blend and build layers, creating vibrant, dynamic paintings that reflect her deep appreciation for the natural world.
