The Refuge Vow marks the decision to commit oneself wholeheartedly to the Buddhist path and to further one’s practice and training. It is the formal commitment to being a Buddhist, following the example of the Buddha Shakyamuni, his teachings (the dharma), and joining the community (sangha) of fellow practitioners. This course aims to explore the meaning of taking refuge in these three jewels and what it means to become a Buddhist.

Who should attend:

  • those who would like to deepen their connection to an already taken Refuge Vow
  • those who intend to take the refuge vow with Acharya John in November
  • anyone who would like to learn more about entering the Buddhist path

Location: Ziji House, 523 W Third St, Lexington

Materials fee:

  • There are materials fees for those planning to take the vow, which include a refuge vow practice book ($24) and a sourcebook with collected writings about the vow ($24).  Please let Lucia Gilchrist know if you plan to take the vow by calling or texting her at the number below so we will have enough books for everyone.

  • For those who are not planning to take the vow, purchasing the sourcebook for an additional $24 is optional. (The practice book is for vow takers only.) Please let Lucia know if you would like to purchase the sourcebook.

Lunch: Meals are not provided with the program. You may brown bag your lunch or there will be time in the schedule for you to eat out.
