Arts Outreach

Upcoming Events: Upcoming exhibits, concerts, classes, and workshops appear on our Programs page.

Outreach: At the Lexington Shambhala Center, we have reached out to our arts community and have hosted a series of visual art exhibits and musical concerts, as well as hands on workshops in both visual art and music. For more information, follow our links for Visual Art, Music, and Flower Arranging (in the menu above).

The Arts in Our Community: Lexington, Kentucky, has an unusually vibrant arts scene for a city of our size. We have a philharmonic, an opera, two ballet companies (LBC, KBT), a public magnet school for the creative and performing arts (SCAPA), a thriving College of Fine Arts at the University of Kentucky (Art and Visual Studies, Music), and a large community of artists and creatives.

Contemplative Arts: Chögyam Trungpa, Shambhala’s founder, taught extensively in the Contemplative Arts and emphasized paying attention to our senses with mindfulness, and to the awareness that arises, True Perception. True Perception is our direct sensory experience, before thought and concept, beyond thought and concept. As artists or as audience, we can experience True Perception and use art to ground us in the present moment.
